Strangely enough... I have a preference for the NECA Alien - sorry again, I shouldn't compare because the NECA one is larger/bigger and articulated in a very different way. I'm just glad I didn't buy this figure when it was $50+...
I like it a lot. Although the minor disappointments, I am very impressed that they managed so much in such a small figure. If you are a HUGE Alien fan, it's a small "must have".
Detail wise, though, in all it's an excellent looking piece... If you get out a magnifying glass. At between 5 and 6", it's just too small a figure to show off the detail unless you plan to use it for diorama pictures or under (bright) light in a glass case. Otherwise, it'll get lost in your collection.
The articulation is also needlessly difficult, mainly compounded by the tiny size. The dome looks good when slid on (the back acts as a kind of a cup that holds it in place) and although some decry the hue of the facehugger paint, I don't have a problem with it.
The bottom line is, it looks nice but needed to be at least 2" taller to be really worthwhile as a display piece.
Above the waistline this guy's pretty damn sharp. Expected high quality articulation except that the back extensions preclude legitimate full swing on the head. The sculpt is the finest in that scale or similar available, and the care and thought put into the upper body design is impressive. Would have preferred a slightly more resilient cling to the plastic skull cover, but that's really more of a quibble.
Where this beast truly and unrepentently sucks, however, is the leg articulation... specifically the hip joints. Any kind of dynamic posing is out of the question as they are very stiff and the scult is unforgiving in its demands. This is where a flexible rubberized material covering the hip joints somewhat would have made this figure go from kinda pretty but static to legitimate awesomeness.
To be fair the same problem plagues my Revoltech Fraulein series figure, but for different reasons.
At any rate, I collect Alien figures and had waited for a long time to get this one, and was very disappointed that all he can do is stand there and wave his arms. Sort of like Kermit the Frog if he were darker and truly frightening.
