Ringo Starr's 17th studio album (as he has countless live albums) reached number 80 on the US Billboard album charts. Why Ringo doesn't sell more albums I'll never know. He consistently puts out some fine albums with good songs, good musicians and a general good times are had by all. Even though it's a short album it's worth your while to check it out.

1. ANTHEM (Richard Starkey, Glen Ballard) The albums best track, a very catchy tune that definitely makes your toe tap and you wanna sing along. Catch the drum track that was originally in the Beatles track 'Glass Onion'.
2. WINGS (Richard Starkey, Vini Poncia) 'Wings' was originally recorded for the 1977 album 'Ringo The 4th". Ringo evidently thought he could do a better version here but I personally prefer the original. This is the single for the album. A very good track
3. THINK IT OVER (Buddy Holly, Norman Petty) A cover version of the classic Buddy Holly tune. Very well done here
4. SAMBA (Richard Starkey, Van Dyke Parks) As you might think from the title it does have an infectious Brazilian feel to it. Very catchy, makes you wanna dance.
5. ROCK ISLAND LINE (arranged by Richard Starkey) I've always liked this song and this could be the best version ever. Ringo based this version on Lonnie Donnegan's version. Donnegan was popular during the skiffle phase of the 50's.
6. STEP LIGHTLY (Richard Starkey) Side 2 starts off with a re-recording of 'Step Lightly', which was originally on the 1973 album "Ringo". I prefer this version as it has a better overall sound to it.
7. WONDERFUL (Richard Starkey, Gary Nicholson) Might be the worst on the album but still a very nice track.
8. IN LIVERPOOL (Richard Starkey, Dave Stewart) Very cool track with Ringo singing about his youth in Liverpool, England.
9. SLOW DOWN (Richard Starkey, Joe Walsh) Could be the rockinest track on the album. The thing I noticed most is Ringo has a great vocal on this one. Good feel to it, very nice track

I give this album a very high recommendation. If people refuse to hear it because of whatever their hangups are about Ringo then that's their loss.

Many people hate on Ringo these days
Its probably because he's still alive and he was ''just'' a drummer
I may be the only one on this Earth but i think Ringo is the best Beatle ever.
He's better at his instrument(drums) rather than playing everything half-decent(Paul),
he actually has other talents (have you seen Lennon's drawings? and he studied Art for a couple of years)
like singing that gets better with time(Paul has almost lost his voice), acting, voice acting, shownmaship
and frankly, he's the only likeable Beatle, bitter old man Pete Worst and George Harrison cheating on his wives included.
After having said that, this is an album produced by himself and both the songwritting and the production are perfect, which is somewhat odd when most respectable rock stars put out crappy albums after a certain age.
Its a scandal hes not a Sir and i bet its because despite Lennon's big words, he was the real working class hero, son of single mother who worked as a bartender, shortish and unpopular, almost illeterate at the age of fifteen and he has accomplished(being still alive included surviving through all the rock madness of the 60s and 70s) so much always with a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone.
10 out of 10.

Por me the reviewer? - Publicado en Amazon.com

I love the Beatles and almost every solo recording by the boys. I must say that this release should have been an EP and not a full length release. This is a very short CD with only 9 tracks on it (a whoopin' 29 minutes long). Another issue with this release is that 2 of those Ringo songs have been released before. Step Lightly was originally released in 1973 on Ringo LP and Wings was originally released in 1976 on Ringo The 4th LP. Even though these songs were re-recorded they didn't need to be re-released on a short CD. There is one song that was released just a couple of months earlier, Think It Over, on the Buddy Holly Tribute Album and there is Rock Island Line, well you don't need to say anything about that song. Thankfully, this new Ringo 2012 release doesn't hit you too hard if you buy it on Amazon because it comes with a special DVD (10 tracks with another whoppin' 15 short minutes). How the heck can you have a 29 minute CD with a 15 minute DVD that talks about the recordings? If you buy this release anywhere else you will only get the very short 9 track CD. Unfortulately for me, I would buy this CD because it is a Ringo Starr release, but I would be and am upset with what I got for the price as well as the amount of tracks on it (new and/or re-released songs). I have been told by a friend she actually liked the CD, but I have been asked by other friends why was this released. Anyway, you can figure out if you like it or not, but make sure you get it on Amazon so you can get the DVD. This way you hopefully won't feel like you over spent your money.

Ringo Starr's solo albums always bring a smile to my face. They are perfect examples of old-school good-time rock 'n' roll at its finest. RINGO 2012 only contains nine cuts and runs just 28 minutes, but the performances are top-notch from start to finish. There are two cover versions, Buddy Holly's "Listen to Me" and the venerable "Rock Island Line," made world-famous by Lonnie Donegan. Two of the seven Ringo originals are remakes; "Wings," the single from 1977's disco album Ringo the 4th, produced by the late Arif Mardin, not Richard Perry, as Ringo claims in the bonus DVD, and "Step Lightly," originally a novelty song-and-dance number (with Ringo's nimble feet) from 1973's Ringo LP, which was produced by Perry (the song was also the U.S. B-side to "Oh My My"). Both remakes are superior to the original versions.

The other five cuts on the CD, from the opening "Anthem" to the closing "Slow Down" (unrelated to the Larry Williams song covered by The Beatles in 1964) are all first-rate examples of Beatlesque pop-rock. The bonus DVD is a track-by-track review of the CD by Ringo (who looks great).

It's hard to believe that Mr. Starkey is almost 72! Why this man is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist is beyond me. The cultural elitists who run the R&R HOF have room for "artists" such as Guns 'N' Roses and The Beastie Boys (who are not even a rock 'n' roll group), but no Ringo? Come on guys, put Ringo in while he's still alive and healthy enough to enjoy it! Don't wait until after his death, as you did with George Harrison!

P.S. Ringo is sick with pneumonia - he missed the Grammys (he was supposed to be a presenter), Paul's MusiCares ceremony, and his Hollywood Walk of Fame presentation as a result. Get well soon, Ring - we want you healthy for the All-Starr tour this summer!

Haven't stopped listening to it since I got it. Although only 9 songs on CD, each is great. Variety of styles, tempos, and moods is good. Anthem and Slow Down in particular stay in my head for hours, and Ringo's voice is in good form on all the tracks. DVD is great for 2 reasons. One, Ringo describing something about how songs come together, and I absolutely love watching him play the drums, period! Wish he had played the drums more in his recent concert stop near Detroit, and had done at least a couple more songs, but Anthem definitely struck a chord with me right then and there. I think this may have been an underrated collection by the man. I love it!
