This gave me the capacity I needed in the size, power and speed I needed.
Its 4T bytes available, but with NTFS overhead it's 3.63TB formatted.
I was very disappointed when I discovered the read/write speeds of this drive during ACTUAL, REAL WORLD USE are actually so far below advertised they negate the use of an SSD entirely. Yes, it's true and there are many others who have done very thorough tests of this. This drive will only give you SSD speeds for very short instances. Try copying a large amount of data to this drive and after a few seconds, SECONDS it will slow to speeds that are SLOWER than an inexpensive portable notebook hard drive. I mean, slow. This is slower to copy files than my 5 yr old USB-3 Lacie rugged portable HDD.
Returned it. Don't buy it. For the price/performance you can get a regular optical disk drive that's 3x the size with the same performance.
The build quality is pretty nice, the outer shell is metal. When the 860 QVO was introduced it was priced higher than it really should've been, but now it's under $400 for the 4TB model, making it attractive. The WD Blue 4TB is also a tempting choice at nearly the same price point.
I wouldn't choose this SSD as an OS drive, but as a storage drive it's fantastic.
However, the second one onl formatted to 1.8 TB--45% of it's rated capacity. I made a point to write the capacity on the outside of the drive, so that if they try to pass this off to someone again as a 4TB drive, they won't waste their time installing it.
Overall, I am very disappointed. I took a day off from work to install and configure this, and now I have to waste even more time returning it and I will have to wait several more days for a replacement.
My hunch it someone knew this was bad and sent it out anyway, hoping no one would notice until after the return window closed. I'm glad I tried to install this right away instead of waiting.
