§ Bourne was a self-taught photographer who also lectured and wrote articles on photography.
§ In 1859, he displayed his photographs at the Nottingham Photographic Society’s annual exhibition.
§ In 1862, he exhibited his photographs at the London International Exhibition. The positive response he received prompted him to set sail for India as a professional photographer.
§ In 1866, Bourne and Charles Shepherd established a photography studio in India. It is still in existence today as the world’s oldest photographic business.
