5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Better Bike Tire Quality Than I Could Imagine Before Seeing It For Myself 29 de febrero de 2016

I didn't want to wait until I had 8000 miles on the 26" X 2" Schwalbe Marathon Plus tire to write the review. Certainly, if there is any problem, I'll update my review. This is my first Schwalbe tire purchase but it won't be my last. I was reluctant to spend so much on a bicycle tire. I bought a lot of bike tires when they were $5 per tire, and now a decent tire is $20, and the SChwalbe is a lot more than that! Buying quality only hurts once. Honestly, I'll probably get 3-4 times the mileage out of this Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tire compared to the $20 tires, making the Schwalbe the less expensive tire in the long term. This isn't a racing tire. This is a reliable commuter tire. This is the tire to buy when you need to get to work on time and not be on the side of the road patching a tube in the rain. My initial reluctance to buy such an expensive tire evaporated when I received the tire. It looks like a motorcycle tire, and an expensive one at that! This tire screams excellence and quality. I bought it for an electric bike conversion because changing the rear tire on an electric bike with a rear hub motor is a pain. There's a lot of weight back there (hub motor in the wheel and the batteries and electronics in a steel box on the rear rack) and I wanted a puncture resistant tire. I have a new $20 tire on the front. When it wears out, I'll replace it with another $20 tire I have in storage, and when that wears out, I'll replace it with a Schwalbe Marathon Plus to match the rear tire, which will still be going strong! Nothing but Schwalbe tires after that! Also, the reflective strip in the tire's sidewall seems a bit gimmicky but it's actually very functional. It looks like a thin light colored sidewall pinstripe in the daytime, but it really pops when illuminated by headlights at night. Check out the picture that was taken with on my phone's camera with the flash enabled.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Your Best Choice if Avoiding Flats is Important 14 de julio de 2011

A year ago I built an electric bike for commuting. I pieced it together as inexpensively as possible and found that skimping on the tires was a mistake. After five flats in as many months I got very serious about finding a tire that would allow me to confidently ride to work and then get back home. The Marathon Plus has great reviews with a reputation for over delivering when it comes to avoiding flats. Yes, it is a bit heavier but there doesn't seem to be much rolling resistance, it makes for a comfortable ride. Within two weeks I ran over a two inch nail that would have been a blow-out. The nail went in about half way and was knocked sideways by hitting the fender. It pulled right out, no loss of air pressure, and I was on my way. If I was skeptical before I no longer am. We just ordered a second pair here from Amazon for a Schwinn mountain bike that has been converted into a college campus bike for our daughter. We have peace of mind that our daughter will have reliable tires (see picture). Also, reviews I have read give concern to it being difficult to mount the tires. I used velcro ties, some use zip ties, to make the mounting a lot easier. There is a video on Youtube I am grateful for finding.(search, "How to fit a Marathon Plus Tyre.mp4"). Enjoy!

I installed a pair of these of my electric Xcursion Xtreme mountain bike four months ago and have covered just shy of 2,000 miles without any flats at all, that's amazing. The protection performance of the Marathon Plus goes without question, however I've experienced some issues with grip which leaves something to be desired. Another issue is comfort, which these do not compare to Schwalbe Big Apple tires. Lastly speed concerns are important for me because of battery life, unfortunately I didn't see any real improvement over the presumed cheap factory installed tires, which produced four flats in first four months of use. So in conclusion, A+ for Protection, C for Grip, C for comfort and B for Speed. Overall protection from costly flat repairs (because of rear electric hub) and protection from me pushing bike home is first on my list of priorities and Speed being second because of range/battery life. For my purposes these tires have performed wonderfully. Thank you.

Long time Schwalbe user, but this is my first use of the new improved Marathons with the "blue" Smartguard. I'm using the 700x45 variants on a fixed Surly CrossCheck, for commuting and day treks. Heavy, heavy, heavy. Good jesus they're heavy.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the rolling performance of these compared to previous Schwalbes. Can definitely feel the difference. Flat performance of these tires has always been legendary and was reenforced on one of my first forays as I pedaled right across a field of broken brown glass (dark, brown glass on black tarmac). Cringed awaiting the hiss but was not to be.

My only complaint with Schwalbes has been the sidewall cracking, these are suppose to address that issues. We'll see.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great heavy-duty touring tire! 23 de agosto de 2016

I mounted these on Weinmann XTB-26 rims (700c) and they were a piece of cake to install. These fellas are big and beefy, marked "e bike ready" which threw me a bit as I thought for a moment that I received light motorcycle tires rather than heavy-duty bike touring tires. I had to do some adjusting to my fenders as these are wider than the Continental Town Ride 700x42s that were on the bike. They ride like a dream and easily handled all the weight for a loaded tour plus me (220 lbs.). Rough asphalt, smooth asphalt, crush and run, shoulder stone...I felt like these guys could handle anything. And, best of all, no flats during a week-long tour. Thumbs up!
