5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas I Picked This over Spigen Slim Armor and a Nite-Ize Case 20 de junio de 2014

I really like two things when it comes to protecting my smartphone: The first is a belt holster, normally a Nite-Ize case, and the other is a large front lip that will protect the screen from front impact. So at first I bought the Spigen Slim Armor Air Cushion super long name case and grabbed the XL Nite-Ize horizontal holster with belt clip. I wasn't happy with how thin the Spigen case was around the screen so I went shopping again. I managed to stumble across Seidio Dilex which I had never heard of before. I was impressed by it, but the main review had been copy and pasted several places on the Internet. Skepticism aside, I took a chance and I ordered it. These are my overall impressions of the case and the holster:

Case Fit: Like a glove. Literally. I put the silicone layer on first and it fits with no loose edges except for the mildly flimsy portion that is in front of the charger. That particular piece is flimsy for a reason and that is because of the fingerprint scanner. When you swipe down it rides along your finger and when you are done it snaps back into place. I mention it because it is a good balance thickness around the screen and pliability for scanning. The next part is the hard plastic backing which took a little effort to get over the edges, but it has a firm grip on the soft silicone. If you are one to swap batteries push at the top center plastic part, lift that section off first, and then pull the rest of the case off. It is much easier that trying to loosen the smaller corners. The hard plastic covers the most important impact points of the phone and that plastic is backed up by the impact forgiving silicone. Nothing is blocked with the case at all so you will have access to the headphone jack, IR Blaster, charging port, etc. One thing to note however, is that the distance to the headphone jack has been increased. This means that while plugging in a standard set of headphones will fit nicely, larger auxillary plugins will have a harder time reaching and will have to be pushed in a little harder. At its widest point the diameter of the opening is 1/4" or 6.35mm. If you don't have a tape measure, plug in your Samsung headphones that came with the phone in there it is less than a mm of space left around it. Basically, it's a cutout meant for standard headphones. The case is also thin enough to make use of the heart-rate sensor so no worries there.

Feel: The silicone as mentioned is incredibly soft and would be very forgiving against a hard surface. It is also kind of slick in a strange way. It isn't slick like the standard gel cases, it feels really smooth to the touch and feels like it was made to emulate how the surface of the plastic feels. All that to say it feels like one piece of a case and not two when you are holding it around the edges. The plastic is also very smooth which means throwing this in the dash of your car and taking a hard turn is going to send your phone to the floor. Granted with this case it will be fine, but for more traction it would be easier to set it face down. Also, there are ridges on the silicone intended for grip, but the only way I truly come in contact with the ridges is when I hold the phone in landscape mode. One thing I like that does help with overall grip ironically is the kickstand. Because it protrudes slightly from the bottom of the case it can rest between my middle and ring finger while I navigate with one hand. The buttons for power and volume also work very well and make a nice audible click sound to let you know you got it. I really like that.

Functionality: An odd category for a case, but since it includes a kickstand I feel it deserves a mention. The kickstand is surprisingly stable with the phone in the case. Unlocking the phone swiping both directions works very well and as long as you aren't heavily pushing and tapping on the left side it should stay in place. It is definitely intended for hands-off media viewing but it will hold up the average interaction during a Netflix run. The S5 has a very sensitive touchscreen so you won't have to push hard to get results. The Seidio belt holster was also included in this package and I am returning my Nite-Ize case. They have similar clips so neither one will come off your belt, they both hold the phone very securely in place, but the closing mechanism is where Seidio sets itself apart. While the Nite-Ize is relatively noisy when opening and closing the case because of the strong velcro, the Seidio holster holds just as firmly with near silent opening. Another thing is how easy it is to replace the Seidio case because you just anchor the bottom of the phone in first and then push the top until it grabs. And I can assure you, it is secure. Because the plastic of the case is smooth Seidio put a rubber lining inside the locking mechanism to grip it firmly. The holster alone was good but I am glad they made a great case that fits the belt holster too.

Conclusion: This case and holster combination is truly unique and worth your money. The Dilex has the slim look of the Commuter with a better holster than the Defender (I've owned both). For protection, the lip around the screen is thicker than Spigen Slim Armor and softer for impact absorption. The feel of the case is very smooth so be prepared to hold the phone securely when using one hand. The belt holster also rotates 360 degrees so you can carry it however you like. I am pleased with the design and I'll be keeping this case on the phone full time. With the Dilex case on my S5 fits in my Nathan's 5K belt for those of you that use it as well. It does take up pretty much the whole space in the pouch. I hope this helps a few people out and if you want something that is going to really protect your phone is several ways give this case a try.

*Belt holster with case is extremely secure
*The lip covering the screen is twice as thick when compared to Spigen Slim Armor while overall case is only slightly thicker
*Feels great in the hand
*Buttons are easy to find and press; makes a great audible 'click' sound when you press it
*Surprisingly slim; kickstand is the only really thick portion
*Looks great; I got the glossy white case to go with my phone and it looks excellent
*Sound is not inhibited from the speaker at all
*Has a kickstand; some people will love this

-Silicone smell gets on hands; I don't know why, but the silicone on mine had a smell and after handling it my hands smelled like it as well. Cautionary tale, I would wipe it down with an alcohol wipe before putting it on the device.
-No screen protection; If you want a screen protector you'll need to put it on first. However I see no issue using glass or plastic with this since the silicone will just sit on top of whatever you install
-Headphone cutout will fit most standard headphones, but may be too small for some aux cables

This is my second Seidio case. I had the Convert Combo for my S3, so I knew I wanted something similar for my new S5. I saw the Dilex, and it really appealed to me. I use my phone a lot for geocaching, which means out in the woods and fields, and a lot of in and out of the holster. The extra padding and back protection are important items for me. The only problem I had with the Dilex case, and the reason I knocked off one star, is the hole for the headphone jack is too small. None of my headphones worked! (I don't do in the ear, like what came with the S5) When I use the S5 without the case, I could see it was a tight fit, so the case was definitely causing an issue. Finally I took matters into my own hands. Using a vice to hold it down (I put padding on each side so I didn't mark it up), I drilled the hole out a little more. Have the vice near the hole itselve, otherwise the whole piece flexes. The 5/16th wasn't enough, I finally needed to go for the 3/8th before my headphones started working again. By the way, it's only the outer layer that needed the drilling, not the padded layer. Later on I'll get some fine sandpaper or something to smooth out the hole, but function is more important than form in this matter. (of course now I probably voided all rights, warranties, etc. by posting this). Anyway, other than that one issue which is now resolved, I'm very happy with the combo. Oh, and one other plus. Even with this case on, the S5 fits in my "iOttie One Touch XL Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder." My old Convert Combo used to bust other phone dash mounts.

2.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas ... have an Otterbox Symmetry case and I've been very happy with that case 27 de mayo de 2015

I have an Otterbox Symmetry case and I've been very happy with that case, except you can't get a belt clip for it. I looked and looked and looked and couldn't find a reasonably thin case that offered some protection. Then I came across this case/clip combo and ordered it. The fit is very good. While I probably won't use the kick stand, I'm not bothered by it. The phone with case is not too big and offers some protection against drops and the like. I like everything about the case except the inner rubber cover is entirely too soft. Just swiping my finger across the home button/fingerprint reader is enough to pull the rubber completely away from the phone. Anywhere around the screen where there isn't hard plastic to support the rubber is also floppy and too soft/flexible. Rubbing your finger lightly across the screen and rubber will pull the rubber away from the phone. It's so flexible that it collects grit underneath it. This would be a 5 star review if the rubber were just a little stiffer. My Otterbox Symmetry was perfect except no case. I wish Seidio used a little stiffer rubber like otterbox. I'd have paid $10 or $15 more just to get something that works a little better. Oh well, the search continues...

Update: So, I've been using the case successfully, even not liking the soft rubber. Everything was going OK until I misplaced my bluetooth headphones. I listen to audio books while I work in the garden/yard and after a couple of days and still not finding my bluetooth headset, I got out my earbuds. Now there is another problem, the 3.5mm audio won't plug in with the case on. Arrrggg. These earbuds fit my otterbox case just fine, but not this one. I searched all around and came up with several more sets of earbuds and none of them fit. Oh well. I'm changing my review from 3 stars to 2 stars. It's a shame that Seidio could have done so much better with so little effort and planning.
3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Buy Seidio Surface case, not the Dilex case. 7 de marzo de 2016

Buy the Seidio Surface case instead. I've used those twice in the past and I had this Dilex case on my phone for a few hours so I can tell you the Surface case is much better. I ordered it by accident, thinking they must have changed it. I'm not sure who would want this one over the Surface and don't know why they'd go to the trouble to manufacture both.

This case has a pronounced lip, compared to the Surface case, where it meets the phone screen and your ear when you talk.

See my review of the Seidio Surface case.

This case is a lot better than the Otter Box Defender I had just like it. The Otter box belt clip kept breaking due to a product design flaw. The belt clip had no spring on the holding clip. This Seidio has a spring on the top where it gets clipped and released. The only drawback that I have seen after having this a year, is that the rubber surrounding the phones face side is a little looser from use than when new but that is expected. It's still holding on pretty tight around the phone though. The primary case IS made of rubber, so you get a better grip on the phone than you would without it. This case is for someone who is going to wear it on their belt, not put it in their pocket. If you carry your phone in your pocket, you may want to look at another case. This one is a bit "sticky" to try and get it out of your pants pocket if it's ringing in time to answer.
