> AMAZON TO THE RESCUE once again.
> I used the R/H shifter, and it's cable, in this kit to replace the broken one on my Yeah folding bike.
> The L/H lever and cable that comes with the kit was not needed on this bike.
> I reused the original cable sheath the bike came with as the kit does not include a sheath that was long enough for this particular bike.
> A trick to remove very tight hand grips is to use compressed air to literally blow them off intact.
> Use rubbing alcohol as a lube to reinstall grips if they won't easily slide on.
> The vendor's shipping time was very quick, and supplied a business card saying to call if you need help. That's a BIG plus...Thank you!
> DL Bike Shop lost a customer with their "I don't really care about your bike" attitude!
It comes with plenty of wires and sleeves to install these on anything. Mine was used to replace a rotary control on a cruiser bike I had put a engine on. A grubee skyhawk 66cc engine kit can't easily use the twist style 6 speed control a swinn cruiser has. This worked perfect and is very accurate for gears on my rear derailer.
The front derailer control that came with it was the real winner. I used it on a Lawnmower that needed a throttle control and it was so easy to convert as a throttle for a lawn mower I now can control the RPM's on a cheap pushmower that makes it more capable.
Great kit for multiple uses really. Buying another one to use for a choke on my old ford truck and a end setting throttle control on my gas welder. Gotta love the way these mount and the positive settings they have. Multi use and affordable!!
THINK BEYOND THE BIKE, INVENT!
Additionally, as mentioned in other reviews, the left shifter is NOT a friction lever, but a series of about 10 or 12 clicked positions that adjust the shift cable either way. Annoyingly, one click may or may not change the position of the front gear--it might take two or three clicks in either direction to execute the change. Further, if you attempt to put the adjust the middle gear to the middle position of the lever (with the upper and lower gears on either side by several clicks), it won't work well because you can release the tension on the cable well beyond what is needed to shift to the lower gear.
In the end, for the price, you get what you pay for. I have already replaced the left shifter with a more standard three-step lever and will be forced to buy this set again for the 6-speed right shifter.
Bottom line: for older 18-speed bikes, a cheap, flimsy, imperfect solution. If there was another alternative, I would have chosen it.
Well I've had this for awhile and it still works. But the push button has broken and fallen off. There is a little white lever thing that it presses to make it notch down one gear. Since that part still works, that's what I use to press to make it change gears. Was a little awkward for my thumb to hit it right, but got use it pretty quickly and hasn't been a problem at all.
So overall the broken push button was only cosmetic. The mechanism still works but certainly has shown it's age. :D
