Biografía del autor
Pat Mills is the creator and first editor of 2000 AD. For the Galaxy's Greatest Comic, he is the writer and co-creator of "ABC Warriors," "Nemesis the Warlock," "Harlem Heroes" and "Savage." He also developed "Judge Dredd" and wrote one of the early Dredd serials -- 'The Cursed Earth'. Outside 2000 AD he is the writer and co-creator of the long-running classic anti-war story "Charley's War," as well as "Marshal Law." He has also written for the "Batman," "Star Wars" and "Zombie World" series for the US market. Currently Mills is writing the best-selling series "Requiem -- Vampire Knight" for Editions Nickel of France with artist Olivier Ledroit, along with new stories for 2000 AD. Simon Bisley occupies an almost unique place in 2000 AD history, as one of the first UK artists to popularise the fully-painted style. His highly dynamic artwork made his two major series in the Galaxy's Greatest Comic -- "A.B.C. Warriors: The Black Hole" and "Sline: The Horned God" -- hugely popular. He also illustrated "Heavy Metal Dredd," an ultra-graphic, adults-only take on the lawman, before going on to pencil the hugely successful first Batman/Judge Dredd crossover story, "Judgement on Gotham." Bisley has provided countless pin-ups and short pieces across an astonishing variety of comics, from legendary fantasy anthology Heavy Metal to anarchic DC superhero series "Lobo," and has an even more extensive CV in Europe, where his painted style enjoys enormous success.

i use the word masterpiece and praise a lot of comics here, but that's because i only bother to praise books that are really worth buying, and this is one of them. simon bisely is simply a genius with paint, pencil, ink, and whatever other visual arts medium he may choose to try. he can create photorealism with seeming effortlessness, but instead of photorealism, he constantly exaggerates and twists and heightens anatomy, perspective and foreshortening in order to tell the story in the most entertaining way. he uses real paint here, not computer coloring, which puts this book on the short list of comic books that will stand the test of time these days. the writing here is good and includes a lot of references to actual scottish mythology, which gives the often comical story more weight, even though sometimes it intentionally runs counter to the standards of usual sword and sorcery fundamentals, sometimes almost to the point of satire. but even at its most jokey, it takes itself seriously enough to engross the reader.
this very strong binding collects all 3 of the 3 part slaine storyline. other stuff to look for by bisely is the "A B C warriors", which is written by the same author as this and features bisely illustrating in pen and ink.
