+ Retractable mic that is of great quality, almost too great.
+ Sleek Design that is collapsible
+ The padding on the headband and on the ear pieces is super soft
+ Durable, Flexible braided cord with extension and inline mute.
+ Earpieces rotate slightly for better fit
- Doesn't feel sturdy
- Slips off my head constantly
- Epic problems with the USB soundcard
Overall this is a great headset for gaming! Playing Elder Scrolls Online, I can tell which direction a snake or mob even if it's no on screen. NPC's will whisper behind me. It's great immersion. It's comfy even for hours of gameplay. If you're looking for noise cancellation, this isn't your device, but I like that. I work on an ambulance, and I slept with these things on, but I'm also use to sleeping to the hum of a diesel, so let that speak to their comfort. I am a petite female, and I find these things slowly slipping off the back of my head constantly. How the ear pieces swivel is great for their fit and I can comfortably have one earpiece off.
The USB soundcard is useless for me. My friends on Skype will constantly complain of beeping. A Google search will tell you this is common with USB headsets, to download specific drivers that don't exist anymore. The latest SteelSeries driver's didn't even have the option that supposedly fixes this issue. With the extension that came with this item, it comfortably reaches my rear jacks, and I can disconnect them from the extension to take them with me. As far as their collapsability, I haven't tried it yet. These headphones seem of good quality, but the connectors don't feel that sturdy. The cord is great though! Overall, I don't think I'll purchase another Steelseries due to the driver/beeping issue, but I am satisfied overall with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone on a budget, especially if you're trying to find a minimalistic device with no fancy LED's.
- broke at least one or twice a year
- had to send them back to manufacturer every time and got a replacement
- after the warranty expired I used the square trade warranty and got a different brand.
- I have 4 headphones within one year, which says a lot for their quality system when they manufacture them
1st - some bearing was loose inside the right headpiece and was rolling around
2nd - loose connection
3rd - random crackling
4th - piece where the headset separates from the arch broke, even though I never separated the headset.
Also DO NOT BUY this product if you plan on using the microphone that comes with the headset. It will pick up ALL the sounds from your game and feed it back to the person you are talking to, which becomes VERY ANNOYING to your gaming friends.
What really bothers me is that this was almost the exact same problem I had with the steel series headphones I had before these. Before this I had the 4H usb model and again, while they worked they sounded great, but something went wrong with the volume control on that one too, that time causing the volume up button to somehow become stuck so the sound would randomly just leap up to max at any given moment. Nothing was touching the button and it wasn't pressed down or stuck at all, something was just broken or loose inside the control somehow and these little volume control boxes can't be opened without breaking them so there's not a thing you can do about it when this happens.
I take very good care of my electronics and in neither case was anything dropped or crushed or touched by anyone other than myself so this is not something that I am causing, and looking through some of these reviews it looks like it's not just me that this is happening to. It's unfortunate, because I really did enjoy both sets of headphones while they functioned, but I won't be wasting any more money on any more Steel Series products if I just have to keep getting a replacement every 6-12 months.
Excellent Audio (Keep in mind I am using my mother boards internal sound card so the quality can get MUCH better)
Sturdy Design (I don't see them falling apart any time soon)
Comfortable (Probably took me one day to break them in, and after that they felt very natural)
Closed Headset for Very Good Noise Cancellation
Pull out microphone is pretty handy for when you want to take your headset out in public and don't want to look like an astronaut.
It's detachable! I've already gotten a chance to travel with it and being a detachable headset made packing a little easier.
USB Sound Card is a Headache to Set Up and Microphone didn't even work.
Not many cons so far but I will try to update this post if I run into them. Overall it is definitely worth the cost especially considering I bought it refurbished.
