Descripción del producto
A riveting account of the life of Dorian ""Doc"" Paskowitz. Surfer, drop-out and sex guru, Paskowitz chose to give up on conventional life in the 1960s, instead taking his family on a journey around Americas top surfing locations, living life according to how he felt it should be lived. Decades later, his choices have split his family, with only a few of his nine children continuing his pursuit of an alternative lifestyle. The rest have not spoken to him in years, until they were re-united for this documentary. The result is a moving account of one familys implosion and a colourful history of the surfing scene in the US.
Doug Prays wonderfully engaging look at love and family and the relentless pursuit of happiness, personal meaning and perfect waves. --The New York Times - Manohla Dargis
Insightful, free-roaming but tautly constructed. --Washington Post - John Anderson
The film is a restrained, straightforward report about an iconoclastic family whose pain and dysfunction play out against a backdrop of tumbling ocean waves, muscular surfers and golden sunsets. --Chicago Tribune - Sid Smith

The father seems to be the ringleader. It's been a long while since I read this, but it somehow reminds me of the quirky family in the movie "Mosquito Coast."
Because the author was bravely telling the truth, I didn't take off a point for what the children had to hear at night in their crowded in their camper.
Wish I remembered more about it. I suggest trying it, but you'll need to shop elsewhere because it's no longer in book form on Amazon.
Sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing, but always interesting and engaging, this is a personal look into the lives of the eight brothers, one sister, and their bohemian parents.
The family, as unconventional as their lifestyle was, was highly regarded in the surfing community.
This is an interesting documentary for fans of surfing, for those interested in the study of family dynamics, and those who dream to live life on their own terms, without being affected by the outsiders who may judge them.
Sexual references and some nudity. Not really a good movie for the kids.
