Descripción del producto

Descripción del producto

In 2065 A.D. the environment collapses, spawning plague that kills all the men earth wide. The surviving women are forced to take over every aspect of life. So begins the New Victorian Age. Now, 475 years later, the restored Earth and colonized Solar System are ruled by ten women Guardians who answer only to a governing computer, CENTRAL. The artificial-insemination banks are nearly empty and mankind faces extinction. The Keyhole anomaly, a wormhole in space, offers a solution: time-travel to transport genetically sound humans from the past. Renegade nuclear engineer Louis Franelli has developed the technology of that time-travel. His employer, criminal and rebel Galen Bestmarke, is using it to go back to 1975 A.D. to collect hunting trophies and establish a slave-trade through time. The Empire is desperate to recover Franelli and his technology so they can use it to save mankind. The Planetary Control Corps (PCC) under the direction of the Guardians, Star-Commander Abigail VanDevere, and the dynamic young team of Lieutenant Janet Rogerton and Pilot Kolanna Montoombo face the daunting task of stopping Bestmarke and capturing Franelli. Can the determined officers of the PCC succeed? Can they do so in time?

Trophy is the first book of the Trophy Saga, a future look at a pivotal time in mankind's history. It tells the story of the continuing struggle to prevent the extinction of the human race. The Trophy Saga is pure science-fiction, not fantasy, written in the classic style. At the end of the book is a handy glossary that fills in many details about the setting.

Trophy is the opening act of what promises to be a good epic science fiction series. It takes place in an imagined future nearly 500 years from now. Earth has gone through a major transformation which in many ways has had wonderful results. The world the author conjures up for us has expanded out into the solar system and even to the next star system. It is governed by a huge computer which is maintained and guarded by women. There are, naturally, rebel forces which don't like the constraints imposed by law and order. The most ruthless of these is an ill tempered degenerate trophy hunter who has power and influence in low places.

The story is well paced as you discover more about each of the characters and their roles within this new reality. If you liked Startide Rising because of the possibilities of inter species communication in the future, you'll love the Guider/Pouncer relationship portrayed in the book. There are some interesting plot twists which occur just suddenly enough to be effective, but not so unimaginable as to disrupt the flow of the plot.

The books leaves just enough unresolved to hint at directions the next installment probably will take, though we will have to wait and see. The writing is old school, somewhere between star trek fandom and as I hinted before David Brin's earlier works (before he went all dirt world on us). A little homage to Frank Herbert came to my mind. Especial in the details given in the afterword of the books. The author has created a fairly extensive, highly detailed and very credible alternate future. I enjoyed the detail of the settings and technology as much as the actual story. Really classic science fiction fare. Was it as good as the first Dune book? Might just be! I enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to the next in the series. It has a tough act to follow.

Trophy by Paul Martin Schofield

I approached this book with some caution. Anything that reminds me of Star Wars or Star Trek is not my favorite subject. Nevertheless, I am glad to have read the beginning of the Trophy Saga.
It was very easy to follow the story, which was not full of characters with strange names, and a glossary at the end was handy but not really necessary.
Saving the human race through travel in time was an interesting subject, as well as the hint of an Amazon society which did not seem to put men down.
I was impressed by the research Mr. Schofield must have done, especially in the area of astronomy.
I appreciated the two additional aspects: First, the hope that there may be a brighter outlook for our planet. Second, the story is written with close to, if not, perfect modern English.
This is a saga I expect to read as each part is published.

Paul M. Schofield has exceeded expectations for his first Sci-Fi novel - TROPHY. The story line is well presented and the character development is exciting. A real "page turner". TROPHY is true science fiction, believable with unexpected and exciting plots. I cannot wait until the next installment is available for purchase. I truly believe this novel is destined to be a classic. His publishing company did a superb job of editing and producing this novel. Congratulations Paul - well done!!

I just could not get into this book. I struggled to 35% because I thought I should enjoy it but I just didn't feel like the story was going anywhere and the "living heads" just grossed me out!

This is an exciting book to share with your family. My Grandson listens as I read and he builds Lego spaceships. How can you calculate the value of time spent like that?
