I purchased these for veggies and other plants that "play well with others", as well as some larger ones that I thought would be more suitable for larger, heavier fruit- & vegetable- bearing plants.
After all was said and done, I have learned that - for outdoor gardeners who don't have a half acre to work with, these are the way to go!
The larger variety are perfectly fine if planting anything that doesn't produce anything too weighty or becomes a gargantuan plant by nature. My zucchini is now affectionately known as my "Wandering Jewcchini" because it got HUGE, literally walked out of the big planter & onto my deck... and - regardless of my CPR, transplantation & prayer chain efforts - eventually died anyway.😕
These were placed in a spot I had in mind for them before they were even delivered. Then, due to rainfall & the needs of the specific plants in them, the little grouping was rotated in place. Next, sunlight conditions led us to move the group to a different place on our deck. And, finally, each container ended up living in its own space entirely.
This set of planters was great in every aspect.
They have drainage holes - yet didn't allow too much of the water to drain off.
They are solid and well-constructed. Even at their heaviest, they were easy to move and didn't literally fall apart at the seams!
They looked cute together - and separately - without having to conceal or dress them up in any way.
The price (especially when weighing in the results) was absolutely unbeatable!
And they helped me to grow things that I would not have been able to otherwise - simply because of my space limitations.
I just got a house in February after years of apartment living & living in houses with little to no outdoor space for plants - & I could not WAIT 'til we stopped having frost, freezing temps, & all the other things that go hand in hand with Winter in the Midwest! I was going to have...*gasps*...a GARDEN! And I did!!!
Thanks so much for helping make my first real gardening experience both a successful and an enjoyable one!
I've moved them around a bit, and they seem quite sturdy. There are holes in the bottom so your potatoes don't get waterlogged. I would definitely buy this again--I'm thinking of trying it with my root vegetables (beets, carrots, etc.).
