I'm giving this three stars for this edition only! I enjoyed the story very much and since I read more nonfiction these days it was refreshing to read Mann's descriptions of the countryside and the story in general as Tonio moved through it. Other people have reviewed the actual story so I'll leave it at that.
This edition seemed to be printed at the Amazon factory in San Bernardino when I ordered it. It's very small and comes with a kind of general picture of Mann on the front. There are no page numbers which doesn't bother me since I didn't mind numbering them, but BOY OH BOY are there misspellings abounding!!! You know how sometimes an author will spell words in a specific way so that when you're reading the words you hear them in your head the way the character would have talked, with a lisp or whatever? Mann does that a couple of times in the book, but at first it confused the hell out of me because up to that point I had read so many misspelled words I thought the printer had gone haywire! Tonio is spelled wrong, Kröger is spelled wrong, so many words in so many places aren't just spelled wrong, there will be the number "1" where there should be the letter "l" (elle). So idk what happened there, but that was annoying and distracting, so I would say if you can find it and afford it buy a different edition.
