5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Review of installation only - appears to be of good quality 28 de marzo de 2015

This review covers only ordering and installation, not operation, because rating that will probably take a year, minimum.

Background: California is experiencing a drought and the price of water is skyrocketing. The restrictions on watering only certain days and not within 48 hours after rainfall are in place in some areas and likely to go statewide shortly, so I ordered these sensors to automatically bypass the watering cycle if it rains. With two seniors and the sprinkler systems completely OFF for the month our water bill was $40 for the month of February, in the summer it will be a lot more, probably double. Within the next few years it is already locked in to double again. The fines for violations , rarely used except for flagrant, repeat, violators are $500.

These sensors come wired for "normally closed" operation, but can be rewired for "normally open" operation. There is plenty of good quality connection wire attached, color coded and pre-stripped. The sensor head is mechanically adjustable for various amounts of rain for the trigger The adjustment is necessarily at the sensor head - keep that in mind when you mount it. If you mount it 30-feet in the air, you have to get to it to change the setting, but this should be a very rare occurrence (if at all) until it's dialed in for the local weather and your personal satisfaction, and it does have to be mounted in a clear area where it can collect the rain. The process of changing the sensor head is easy. a series of slots for various amounts of rain in both inches and millimeters.

This is a 12V-24V item which are most water solenoids, do NOT connect to a 110V/220V circuit.

Instructions are in several languages, with different languages on separate sheets - and that's a plus these days.

Connect and test before mounting, lets you work on th ground as much as possible before you have to work on a ladder.

Remove power from controller (just unplug it, if you have a battery backup or a non-volatile program chip the program will stay ), run the wire through cable strain release and secure it, remove sensor jumper if it is installed in controller, and connect this sensor observing polarity (Red is +). Close up, re-plug, and test. My controller has a symbol on the LCD screen to show if the sensor was interrupting the cycle, made for an easy hand test.

I mounted sensor itself to the rain gutter with the clamp - no problems. IMHO the wire should be secured to the house or fence, etc. with cable ties or similar, don't let long lengths of wire blow around in the wind or it will eventually damage the insulation.

Let you know how it actually worked next March, lol

There is a multi-purpose mount attached to the sensor and an extra pole-type mount in the box, there are not instructions for the pole type mount, but it's east to figure out. The attached mount has a clamp for rain gutter mounting and screw holes (screws are included) for mounting on wood fascia. Instructions have a clear figure in how to use mounts except for the pole mount.

That's it, so far, so good. Where's the rain?
