This case is really eye catching even though it's simple; I love the shade of green I got (do not expect it to work with the 5c, or the 5s if you want to use the fingerprint scanner). It shows the Apple logo and has nice port covers that stay in place, unlike my boss's (admittedly much used) Otterbox. I also have a feeling that the port covers will, to an extent, help prevent stray water drops from frying the phone's delicate electronics, though probably won't help if it takes a dip in the pool. I also like that the screen protector is a separate piece rather than integrated.
I've had this case for about two weeks.
Just some FYIs:
- The case is in two parts
-- Black/grey plastic supports the back and helps stabilize the rubberized inner piece, keeping it aligned appropriately. This part also helps the phone slide in and out of pockets more easily than all-rubber cases.
-- Colored (in my case green) rubbery inner liner protects the vulnerable corners and helps you get a good grip on the sides, plus allows for depressing the various buttons and makes the port covers. It's got snappy elastic memory and hasn't started to slouch (yet).
- Port covers flip away slightly more than 90 degrees and snap tightly into place, surrounded by the outer case.
- Includes a screen protector film and application instructions/tool.
- Use is simple:
-- If you don't have a screen protector, put it in place first (I didn't use theirs as I'd already had one but will use it eventually).
-- Put the inner rubber liner in place
-- Slide into the outer plastic case
-- Snap the port covers into place (can take a bit of squishing to get the volume buttons/ringer switch cover seated properly but it will happen without much struggle)
- I don't recommend trying to put both parts of the case on simultaneously. The rubber inner tends to get stuck on the phone.
- Doesn't seem to affect my ability to use the full area of the screen. Edges are just as responsive as without the case because the beveled screen surround reduces the bulk so my fingers can reach the screen.
- Has screening over the mic/speaker so audio is relatively unimpaired... Siri seems just as capable of misunderstanding me as she always was.
Hope this review helped! Anything changes, I'll note it here.
Still loving this case. The rubber's stretched slightly but still fits well and looks pretty new. There is one place the rubber is nicked but it doesn't affect the usability. The most used port (charging port) is about to lose its flip cover but it has been a year. I'll probably replace this with a new one when the port cover breaks off. A year and a half is a great lifespan for a case like this, at this price, and several drops (including some recently) have resulted in zero damage.
I think the thing that saved my phone was the fact that the port covers on this case were so snug that no water got in. I really can't think of ANY other reason why my phone is still working. And I haven't even mentioned the MANY times my phone has fallen on the floor, been thrown by the toddler above and otherwise mistreated. Trident, you've got a customer for life!
