Críticas

"Holiday is part Machiavelli, part Ogilvy, and all results...this whiz kid is the secret weapon you've never heard of."--Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek "Essential reading."--Andrew Keen "Ryan Holiday's brilliant expose of the unreality of the Internet should be required reading for every thinker in America."-- Edward Jay Epstein, author of The Big Picture "The strategies Ryan created to exploit blogs drove sales of millions of my books and made me an internationally known name."--Tucker Max "Behind my reputation as marketing genius there is Ryan Holiday, whom I consult often and has done more for my business than just about anyone."--Dov Charney, CEO and founder, American Apparel "Holiday has written more than a dyspeptic diatribe, as his precise prose and reference to the scholarship of others add weight to his claims. A sharp and disturbing look into the world of online reality."--Kirkus Reviews "His focus is prescient and his schemes compelling. Media students and bloggers would do well to heed Holiday's informative, timely, and provocative advice."--Publishers Weekly "While the observation that the Internet favors speed over accuracy is hardly new, Holiday lays out how easily it is to twist it toward any end... Trust Me, I'm Lying provides valuable food for thought regarding how we receive -- and perceive -- information."--New York Post "This is an astonishing book. Holiday has worked for several years as a self-proclaimed media manipulator, running campaigns for companies such as American Apparel. He is now intent on revealing the tricks that his kind use to influence us. Many of these stories are chilling."--Gillian Tett, Financial Times

Descripción del producto

You've seen it all before. A malicious online rumor costs a company millions. A political sideshow derails the national news cycle and destroys a candidate. Some product or celebrity zooms from total obscurity to viral sensation. What you don't know is that someone is responsible for all this. Usually, someone like me.

I'm a media manipulator. In a world where blogs control and distort the news, my job is to control blogs-as much as any one person can.

In today's culture...
1) Blogs like Gawker, Buzzfeed and the Huffington Post drive the media agenda.
2) Bloggers are slaves to money, technology, and deadlines.
3) Manipulators wield these levers to shape everything you read, see and watch-online and off.

Why am I giving away these secrets? Because I'm tired of a world where blogs take indirect bribes, marketers help write the news, reckless journalists spread lies, and no one is accountable for any of it. I'm pulling back the curtain because I don't want anyone else to get blindsided.

I'm going to explain exactly how the media really works. What you choose to do with this information is up to you.

Elegí este libro porque es para regalar. Ha llegado a tiempo y en buen estado. Es de tapa blanda y la letra aceptable. Limpio y ninguna hoja estaba arrugada. Únicamente decir que se habían dejado la etiqueta del precio puesta.

Great. I never expected it to open my eyes in the way it did. There's so much to this book that's so worth it.

This is one of the most incredibly insightful books I've ever read. It will show you the dark and manipulative but ultimately logical world the media works in. By optimizing for profits in a capitalistic world the media goes for the stories that garner the most attention while also being the easiest to write about. And you know what ticks both those boxes? Outrage. Fear, anger and hope drives people, and the stories are abundant. Marketing companies realize this and have weaponised the media through creating what appears to be news and important information but really is just a powerful method of advertising their product. Read this and you'll never look at a news article in the same way again.

Really strong, concise, and disturbing. Holiday writes it as a cautionary tale and a bit as redemption. I've read a lot of this in other sources, but this is the best synthesis I've found. He basically tells you how it works - what to do with it is up to you. I don't agree with all of it - but all the more reason to recommend. Gave me a lot to think about.

Holiday uses as example his own media manipulations as foundation for his thesis: modern blogo-journalism is hopelessly broken. When content is dictated by expected clicks rather than insistence on accuracy, the stories on sweatshop blogs cannot help but be fake news. Natural selection insures that the stories with the greatest lurid appeal are the ones most likely to rise to the top; even ultimately to appear as seemingly legitimate stories on the mainstream media. Please read this. Learn to distrust everything you read online. I plan to try to fall for fewer clickbaits. Maybe I'll succeed.

What was written as a guide to the broken blogging system, generating powerful marketing campaigns by beating the internet at its own game, has turned into something radically different. In 2017, this now reads as "This is How Fake News Happens" book. Equal parts horrifying and thought-provoking, Holiday is able to walk you through his own personal experiences with a flawed system, offering you everything you'd need to begin taking advantage of, or hopefully, working to remedy a broken model. An easy read, filled with great anecdotes, Holiday has developed his writing further since, but there are some wonderful moments throughout the book. Be ready to be uncomfortable and walk away with a changed perspective on our current media landscape.

A valuable book, but with one basic message that is repeated over and over: bloggers will write anything to get get page views to make money from advertising. This was written in 2012, however. Now that we have Adblocker, how has the business changed?
