No other pen seems as capable as the 207 Ultra Micro. Up until discovering the Micro, I was a diehard ballpoint fan. But the splotching, inconsistent flow/darkness, and poor performance in small-tip sizes (do not try BIC's ultra fine Atlantis—trust me), forced me to reconsider my options. When I used this pen (regular Micro) from a coworker's desk, it satisfied all my needs other than the size of the tip. Fortunately, we have the product I'm reviewing, the Ultra Micro, one of the finest-tipped gel pens I've come across.
It flows out evenly for its full life. Toward the end, it starts skipping ink but doesn't stay in this stage long before going kaput. Like a battery that doesn't slowly die, but dies abruptly. Perfect.
It never "splotches". That is to say that it is not pressure sensitive. It is speed sensitive obviously, as the slower you write, the more gel flows out. But this hasn't seemed to be an issue.
It dries quickly enough such that by the time you have finished one line and move your hand back to the margin where you started your sentence, your palm isn't going to smear the ink. I've found the larger-tipped gel pens are pretty notorious for this, but the tiny amount that comes out of these guys prevents that.
Speaking of which, this pen lasts unusually long since the tip is so fine. It's the difference between a hose and a straw.
It's also fairly commonly available—and this is a big perk. I'm certain there are better alternatives for someone with very small writing or one who does detailed engineering work as I do. But you can't run to the grocery store and pick those up; you'd need to order it online or at a hobby shop. You can almost always find Uni-Ball products in big markets (though the Ultra Micro isn't as common as the bigger tips... My store just ran out which I suppose is why I ordered it online, haha).
Photo compares medium gel pen (BIC) with ultra micro. Last word was rubbed immediately after writing to show smear.
Go for it.
For those whom had bad batches, I feel like they didn't give the pen a chance. Anything you buy online, or even at stores, can have bad batches. I used to work for a repair service in SAMSUNG and every now and then I'll get those customers who swears they'll never buy another SAMSUNG because of ONE bad TV. Very rarely people have excessive bad product. Considering SAMSUNG has the best quality TV in the world, good luck with your Vizio. This is how I feel about these pens.
Not with the Uni-ball 207 pens. These pens rock! They are a joy to write with! I have some arthritis in a couple of knuckles and a little neuropathy from meds I treated with a couple of years ago. These pens are extremely comfortable to me, and I like the way the rubber grip fits well in my fingers. The ink distributes evenly. The color is bold and a strong black. And, best of all, NO SMUDGES! I ran out of ink yesterday, so I ordered these as a replacement (oh, another benefit is just how much I was able to write with one pen. I was able to fill more than 1/2 of a marble composition book with one pen). You can get the refills, but the price of these four were comparable to two refills. When I ran out, I grabbed a Pentel gel pen that was nearby. Oh NO! Smudges!! I had forgotten that that even happened because I haven't had the slightest smudge with the Uni-ball.
There are a lot of valid reasons and many different uses that people have posted in these reviews. But, if you want a pen that is an outstanding value for their price and will give you satisfaction with their use, buy these!!!! You will not regret it.
