Reseña del editor
When the past and present collide, love is the casualty. Why? Since splitting from her husband, single mum Anna Barnes is enjoying her new found freedom and independence. Now she can concentrate on looking after her teenage son and building up her career. However, she didn't bank on working for Tex Garcia. The gorgeous American chef is getting the locals hot under the collar and not just because of his culinary prowess! Beneath that handsome exterior, however, lies a man haunted by his past. Tex can't commit and women pass through his life like dishes going out to service. So what is it about Anna that's different? Can Tex break her self-imposed rule of never mixing business with pleasure and add some spice into the mix? Or is Anna's ex set to spoil the recipe altogether by turning up apparently seeking reconciliation? Is everything as it seems?

Tex is a successful chef about to open a new restaurant in Arundel in West Sussex, Anna’s hometown. Tex loves women, but he avoids commitments since the death of his wife. But when he met Anna, she got under his skin and somehow she is making him want more.
Unfortunately Anna’s not-quite-yet ex-husband has returned, and it he seems to want Anna back in his life. To make matters even more interesting, a colleague is dead-set on ruining things for them, and Tex’s friends and her family, along with the museum curator will be interefering in their lives more than either of them want.
Anna will have to make serious decisions about her life, what she truly wants and come to terms with her feelings. Anna and Tex will have many obstacles in their budding romance, but with a little hard work and patience they may just find out what they truly want.
The sub-plot about Anna’s brother and his wife was really nice too, things are not only difficult in a new relationship but also in a marriage, but they can both find a way with a little love and hard work.
If you want a fun, emotional and really enjoyable read, don’t miss United States of Love by Sue Fortin.
Following Anna on an assault course of up and downs, you really feel for her and the struggles she goes through - we've all got that one person in our lives who is manipulative, but for Anna that person is her husband. Fortin weaves the story in and out of emotional minefields and allows the characters to face their inner demons before being able to see what it is they really want.
This is a great little read with well thought out characters, solid plot and interesting backstory, all the ingredients for a tasty treat.

For fans of women's fiction, this will appeal. The complications Anna faces are true "what does it mean to be a woman?" problems. And where is hers? No woman wants to be lonely or fearful. Anna has to carve her way in the world to find her joy. Part of it comes in the form of a second-chance-at love with the sexy chef and widow, Tex, who has closed his heart to love, and must re-learn to let go.
Throughout the book, I rooted for Anna and suffered right along with her. She does not enjoy a straight path to a happy ending. I enjoyed that part of the writing: There were definitely times when I didn't see what was coming next.
In the end, United States of Love left me with a warm feeling and a smile on my face when I recall Anna and Tex. For my taste, there's not enough rom com around these days. If you're like me, and you enjoy old-school chick lit with an elevated dash of women's fiction, I recommend reading this book.
