With that said, I will try and describe how they sounded while they were working. These require a good seal to sound their best. If you are not getting skull pounding bass, change your tips until you do... I found these to work best with EDM music, in fact, that is all that I listened to with these for a few reasons. The mids appear to be very recessed. Vocals sound as if they are really far away, some recordings are more pronounced in this respect than others. The bass is not muddy at all, pure punch. None of this matters however. As soon as you really start enjoying them and find the right tip to use, they will inevitably break.
Very happy with purchase. Fed up with Bose In-ear headphones with mic for iphone after 3RD pair wore out because wires are so delicate, fray, and expose wires then break (usually happens about 6-9months after purchase). Also, Bose headphones constantly getting tangled in my pocket. C'mon Bose, do a better job at that price point!!
Velodynes: the good.
After getting used to different fit of Velodyne earbuds versus Bose In-ears, Velodynes sound better hands down!! (Did not believe it myself). When the headphones are placed snug and deep into ear, the Velodyne's sound is much stronger and bass is much deeper. The cord is flat like a fettuccine noodle and definitely easier to use out of pocket. It is not "tangle-free/proof", but soooo much better than my previous Bose that constantly got jumbled in some weird impossible knot. Basically got what I was looking for: surprisingly better sound, more durable cord, and definitely less tangles at a cheaper cost.
As noted by previous reviews, when walking around without listening to anything, you can hear the cords brush against most everything (like your jacket, zipper, clothes, etc.). However, I noticed that because they act as snug ear plug type headphones, you can also hear yourself breathing and chewing whatever you're eating. Thought this would be a big deal, but when listening to music or phone calls while walking around, I don't hear or pick up those noises/sounds. The headphones do fit in the ear like earplugs, so walking around the city, on the one hand they cancel noise out (except for the cord and body noises mentioned above), on the other hand, you might not hear what's going on around you (important in NYC). Lastly, the shirt clip is horrible/abysmal. It is so weak it cannot clip on to anything nor hold the cord in place so useless.
Conclusion: highly recommended because they are overall better AND cheaper than the Bose headphones I had used for many years, but would regularly have to replace due to easy fraying. Will write an update if these Velodynes do the same over the next 6-9 months. In the meantime, they are cheaper and sound better.
