Reseña del editor

Aeva Storm is a tenacious athlete with the grisly scars to prove it. On the night of her most riveting championship victory, a bolt of lightning rips from the sky, sealing her fate to becoming humanity’s newest kind of weapon. A Modi. Modi’s are humans reconstructed with synthetic parts, turning them into invulnerable creatures. The innovation was first used as a cure for a fatal disease within the City of Light. But the genius behind the invention has gone rogue with his experiments and the Monarchy is determined to shut him down. With Aeva's natural athletic abilities, she is the prime recruit for his plan to dismantle the Monarchy, thrusting Aeva into a fight she must finish to the bitter end. If she succeeds, she will unleash the deadliest modi’s ever created, and threaten all that is left of their crumbling civilization. Filled with political intrigue, unbreakable familial bonds, and evocative young love, VIOLET STORM is a gripping read that will challenge the way we think about our own human limitations.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas ***PURE ADRENALINE RUSH*** 18 de febrero de 2016
Por Luke - Publicado en
Formato: Tapa blanda Compra verificada
Violet Storm is a perfectly paced adrenaline rush, not only breathless but unique. Anna Soliveres' debut novel grabs anyone brave enough to pick it up from the very first word and treats them to a twisty-turny topsy-turvy young adult dystopian sci-fi that could best be described as The Bourne Identity meets Blade Runner meets Red Queen, plus or minus certain key elements of each. That said, it really stands on its own as extremely gripping enjoyable fun and readers can pick it up comforted to know the sequel, Crimson Earth, is ready and waiting to give readers just as much (if not more) of an unforgettable roller-coaster thrill ride as Violet Storm. Anna Soliveres writes with a strident boldness, the voice of Aeva Storm a veritable rhapsody of no-nonsense resolve, aggression and intensity, impossible to turn away from. But hidden behind her coarse (and actually flawless) exterior, Anna gives us glimpses of heartbreak and emotion as tangible and beautiful as it comes. Only read this novel at your own risk. Anna's prose is laden with attention-grabbing material and the ingenious combination of the reader discovering the plot and building the world along with the main character wraps around the reader like an electrostatic net sure to satisfy the hungriest of dystopian adrenaline junkies.
4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas The Future World is a Dark, Bleak Place 21 de septiembre de 2014
Por Kindle Reader - Publicado en

Centuries into our future, the world is a dark, bleak place. The very ground is sick, making it nigh on impossible to grow crops or raise livestock. Aeva Storm lives in Agria, a town striving to create new strains of grains and vegetables that will somehow grow in such an inhospitable environment. An incurable disease is also ravaging the world's human survivors, and the way to treat the disease is to replace the diseased body organ with a synthetic one - if you can afford it.

Aeva is a professional athlete, playing in an extremely violent game known as Fila. Beating your opponents to a pulp is a valid a strategy as is scoring points by throwing the glass ball into the goals.

When Aeva is struck by lightning in the midst of one of her fila games, it seems her life is over. However, she wakes weeks later in a shed out in the country, bewildered and disorientated and miles from her beloved town.

From there, her life gets even more bizarre. How is it she can smash through a solid wooden table without exerting effort? Why can she see in the dark and hear better than she could before?

When she is informed that her town has been destroyed, she goes into a state of denial, and rushes there immediately to verify the claims and look for her family, for they mean the world to her.

And though her journey is fraught with danger, though she is not without allies. But why does the first ally she makes, a young man similar to her in age, insist so adamantly that she covers her face every time they meet other people? Is she so ugly from years of facial injuries receiving while playing fila that he thinks no one can bear to look at her? Why then won't he stop staring at her?

From there, things become more complex, as Aeva is drawn into a web of deceit and betrayal beyond anything she would have thought possible.

Violet Storm is a thrilling read, with a host of engaging characters. Violet herself is a complex girl, confident and abrasive yet full of insecurities. She is also driven to find and save her family, whatever the cost. Yet even this is not as simple as it sounds, causing her much anguish and soul searching. The other protagonists that come alongside her are fully fleshed out, as are the villains of the story.

Violet Storm presents us with a detailed description of a world in crisis. We see decaying woods, desperate cannibals, unique towns and cities each with their own detailed histories and cultures.
5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Not your typical heroine! 12 de junio de 2014

I recently finished reading Violet Storm and I loved it! I really hope this can be made into a film someday even just for the Fila scenes alone. What a cool concept! Although I have to say my favorite part about the book is that the main character isn't your typical helpless teenager. Eva may lack confidence in her physical appearance (you will have to read to find out why), but she never has to think twice about defending herself or anyone else - and she is quite capable at doing so. Overall it's a very fun read, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here!

I read this book in less than 3 days, it's so good! Violet Storm is Book 1 in Soliveres' MODI Series, and Book 2 (Crimson Earth) is set to come out in a few days! The story is full of adventure and mystery, and Anna paints a very vivid picture of what our world and society as we know it COULD become. I highly recommend Violet Storm if you're interested in a Sci-Fi story that is thrilling and fantastical.
5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Entertaining and very descriptive! 18 de abril de 2014

Violet Storm kept me wanting more after every chapter. I could not wait to get my questions answered. What is a Modi? What happened to Agria? Who would do something that horrible? How is Aeva going to survive this? I do still have questions and I'm very excited to find out what will happen in the next Modi book! Aeva still has a lot to overcome and she has already learned so much. I loved how this new world was described, how I saw the images in my mind because they were explained so well. I honestly could not put this book down.
