When our pre-order arrived yesterday, I began reading it on the sofa around 8pm. Before I knew it, it was 10pm; the National's game had ended, the Monday night football game started, and I was already halfway through the book. Campbell, our pup, started whining to go out, so my husband took her on a walk. I tidied things up in the kitchen post-dinner and got stuff organized for the anticipated morning rush out the door to preschool. I returned to the sofa and didn't stop reading until finishing up after midnight. (As an aside, I was already in the middle of another book, plus 2 magazines, and a boat-load of to-do items on my ever-growing list, not to mention I was just super tired overall). Yet, I could not put the book down; it really drew me in.
I felt like I could "hear" the couple's voices and envision their expressions, intonations and feelings in the written dialogue. As a dog-owner and dog-lover myself, much of the expressed feelings resonated with me. My parental feelings immediately and instinctively arose the moment the couple held onto Wrigley, their puppy, for the first time. As a parent, I totally understood why they worked so hard to save him. The book is an easy, insightful and overall enjoyable story on many levels.
