I would have went for the new Diamond 1xx or 2xx series, but I got a great deal on a pair of Diamond 10.2's a 10.CC and a Diamond subwoofer.
Purchased these as rears to match my front pair, came within 5 days as advertised, customer service was great too, answered all my questions and very quick.
If you are looking for either a pair of stereo speakers, or fronts for your surround, or even if you are deciding weather to buy these as surrounds to match your fronts like me - I highly recommend them! They can handle anything you throw at them.
I mainly listen to music, play games and watch movies on these and they do not disappoint on any of those.
This is how I have mine configured: PC connected with HDMI to my Sony STR-DH820 then from that to my TV.
(Make sure you set up the sound options in Windows correctly for your speakers!)
Here's a tip: after selecting the amount of speakers you use, make sure you keep them as full range speakers in the configuration and do NOT use any of the Windows "enhancements".
So... on to how they sound. (I won't go into too much detail with sound stages and all that stuff)
Music: They really do shine when you feed them a high quality source, such as FLAC or a original CD.
I use Foobar2000 on my PC with an addon called "Channel mixer" which allows me to play stereo music in 5.1.
Yes, I know some of you will hate this but I honestly prefer having my music all around me making use of my expensive speakers, plus it does actually keep the stereo feeling believe it or not. Left sounds are all to my left, but to my front AND back, not just front. Which is brilliant. (it's like using headphones)
Playing EDM such as Monstercat is where I honestly feel these speakers do best, they do really well with electronic music and make it sound so vibrant and clean, you could listen to the same song over and over again, each time picking out things you've never heard before. Plus they don't struggle at all with the bass or high volume levels!
Rock and cinematic music also sounds brilliant, I listened to a CD of Transformers 3 and I had goosebumps all the way through. It was that impressive! Not got round to listening to much rock on these so i won't say much apart from: Bloc Party, Angels and Airwaves and heaver stuff such as Iron Maiden all sound brilliant. Every little detail is just superb. Trust me, they will sound great with ANY sort of music.
Movies: Wow. Just wow. I use Windows media player with the Shark007 codecs which allows me to stream the DTS-HD-MA and Dolby HD (Plus any other of them such as standard DTS/Dolby) soundtracks straight to my receiver for it to decode.
I played the opening scene of Transformers 3 - up until the part where Sam gets given the bunny by his girlfriend.
After hearing it in 7.1 on my DX-1 speakers I was worried the 7.1 effects would be missed out on as I'm now using 5.1....
But do not fear! These speakers during 7.1 movies (in 5.1 configurations) still keep the sort of feeling of 7.1 due to the way they throw sound into the room, it's awesome! Now if you've watched TF3 you'll know that theres some really bassy and dynamic sounds in there: well these speakers handled it all with ease, I could have had them a LOT louder (i had them on 32 on my Sony reciever if that helps) but I'd rather not deafen myself haha.
I also played a few other films and trailers and such, all Dolby/DTS soundtracks, I was impressed by everything.
Games: same as movies really, you can hear every detail, feel every explosion and pick out things you've never heard before.
(Make sure you set the game to the most dynamic sound mode for best result. E.g: Battlefield have a Home Cinema mode and Call of Duty has Supercrunch - use them!)
The speakers do need a little bit of burn in as my used fronts sound "warmer" than my brand new rears but not too different.
After the burn in period they seem to tone the treble to a nicer level and the bass gets cleaner, I'm already noticing my rears changing slightly each day.
Make sure to buy some decent speaker cable and a decent amp/receiver.
The best speakers I have ever owned and I don't think I'll need to upgrade for years to come.
P.S: sorry if the review is badly written or all over the place, I only just woke up and thought it'd be a good idea to write all my pending Amazon reviews... Thanks for reading though if you got this far.
Very good build quality, great looks and a sound that gives warmth and body to your music. If you like, House, garage, R&B, Reggae, Dancehall, soul, Funk, Jaz, Bossa Nova,Vocals and plenty other genres of music, these are your boys if wanting excellent bookshelf speakers. Especially if you can to give it a bit of space behind it. Many bookshelf lack bass but these have plenty of it to give. I have them paired with a 70wpc Marantz amp which is getting the best out of them.
Probably cant get them now, but if you, can you will not be disappointed. IMO these are very good all round speakers
