Simple easy recipes and helpful hints for graduates or newly-marrieds, but useful for a lifetime.
Nota de la solapa
"This book can never take place of a wonderful Mom, but for some people it will probably be the mother they never had. Everything in it is simple and easy, it's got tons of yummy looking easy recipes, tons of tips for EVERYTHING, and even has a section on health, like what vitamins do what for your body, and what foods you can find them in, as well as a bunch of nutrition tips."
"I have been giving this book to high school graduates of family and for about 10 years. It is a great resource of helpful hints really, covering a variety of topics including laundry, cooking, first aid, repairs..."

Although it is marketed for students, I really think this book is an excellent purchase for anyone who is just starting out living on their own. I am newly married, and have just moved from England to the US - so it isn't always practical to call my mum to ask for advice when I need to know how to deal with a tricky stain, or can't decide what to cook for dinner.
I learned some interesting tidbits just whilst browsing through this book. The writing was very clear and informative, and it didn't make me feel patronized. I haven't tried the recipes yet, but they look very simple (three or four per page) and rather delicious.
I was sorry that there weren't any pictures to accompany the recipes. Perhaps this is simply because the book is not exclusively a recipe book, and the recipes listed aren't too complex. I expect most readers will already be familiar with the majority of recipes listed, so aught to know how it's supposed to turn out.
A definitely good book. Don't be put off thinking that it's just for college students staying away from home for the first time. This is a great book for anyone!
I give it only 4 stars for three reasons. 1) The non-ring bound version doesn't hold up (or stay open) well. 2) There are no pictures or charts 3) Sometimes info is difficult to find on basic cooking times. Otherwise this is a great book and highly recommended.
Oh and as for the guy/gal reviewer who criticized it for being sexist, grow up. It's a catchy title, and the author is only playing to her audience. At least she is wise enough to realize that women DO need to deal with finances. (Years ago many women were left in the dark about such things-- my grandmother couldn't even write a check!). I applaud Ms. Frandsen for including a little bit of everything. Besides, you'll note that the presumed readers of the book are BOTH male and female-- we ALL need to know how to cook (and repair things) these days!
