Vannguard Shaw has spent the last ten years serving a life sentence and adjusting to the ache of solitude. He accepts his fate, a sacrifice for the only man he ever loved and the one person who saw beyond his rough edges.
Drayton grew up with a trust fund and pre-planned future, but an unexpected encounter one night forces him to abandon everything and start from scratch. He is now a self-made man and developer of one of the most sought after electric exotic automobiles in the world with a fortune greater than that of his birthright. Yet, he’d surrender it all—again—for the only man who’s still ever-present in his heart.
After a decade and entirely too much distance between them, Vann is suddenly released back into a world that has been nothing but cruel. Drayton never lost hope they would once again reunite and pick up where they left off, but Vann’s stubborn nature and repeated encounters with a heartbreaking world prove to be a challenge.
Vann needs to tap into his fighting spirit’s reservoir of strength and hope life doesn’t punish him for taking a chance. Only then will he realize his own value and feel worthy enough to finally have Drayton’s heart. And their chance at forever.

1) The names of the 2 MCs were a tad ridiculous - Vannguard & Drayton. Vannguard's name did at least have semblance of meaning to it, but the other name was just daft & together - eye-rolling.
2) The way Vannguard miraculously recovered from a 10 year sentence and became an amazing designer running an entire department in a matter of weeks, despite having had panic attacks seemingly days earlier. It didn't make sense & was the biggest bug-bear of the book
3) The car stuff, it just became yawn-inducing & the bad guy head of design, a cliche.
4) Drayton's character was irritating - an amazing brain, slightly autistic in his handling of humans & with a horrible parentage. Whilst this should have made him appealing, the way he was written to me, made him unappealing.
5) Vannguard's crime & prison sentence was a criminal oversight that should have been up for review or is the American legal system really that skewed & poor?
6) The lack of a role for the Half Way House, which had been so key in previous books, was set aside in this one, to its detriment.
In all, too many irritations to make it a really good read, it was just an average OK one sadly, and a disappointment in the series. Two & a half stars, rounded up to three.

There was so much love, passion, tenderness and belief between Dray and Vann...in their looks, in their touches, the intensity built up over ten years of loneliness and grief that you just knew [and prayed like mad] that everything would work out for them....and the letters, Gahd the letters [gulp] just about killed me. The letters Dray sent every week while Vann was in prison, and the replies Vann wrote but never sent...kept in a notebook just for Dray to read when Vann got out....honestly, if you're in need of a good cry for whatever reason then this story and especially those letters should really help. The guys certainly lost out in the family stakes BUT thank God they had each other; Dray's cold and arrogant bitch of a mother [and I use that term loosely] and Vann's greedy, violent and drunken arse of a sperm donor would have made great pantomime villains, with the audience shrieking 'boo, hiss' at every appearance and no doubt throwing things at the stage...quite weighty objects too I would imagine, hehe.
Liked having the little catch-up with all the other MC's of the previous stories in the series too, although I suppose this would work just as well as a standalone...it's all about the wonderful writing she says sagely!!

The story is unique and original, the injustice was overcome and they got their long awaited happy ever after. I loved all of this series but this one's my favourite so far. I was deep in Vann and Dray's story from the beginning.

The stories are well structured and the characters are well drafted. You get pulled in quite happily until you get to the relationship stage, then the author turns the characters into the worst 'little wife' toxic, chauvinist relationship.
I know there may be many gay relationships that function in this way, but not with characters who such as those in the story.
There is a misunderstanding on the author's part of how two men bond. And it is not with fluttering, an apron, 'butterfly kisses' and rolling eyes.
I still enjoyed the stories.
