5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Best Case I've Found for the New Ipad -UPDATE 2 22 de marzo de 2012

June 2014 UPDATE 2
The new design is still going strong. I passed my iPad along to my wife to purchase the iPad Air. She uses the case for school and loves it. Recently I purchased the case for the iPad Air directly from Zerochroma (since Amazon doesn't stock them yet) and my Dad purchased one to use for "field duty" as an appliance repair pro. I was probably a little too hard on my stand because it crack right at the stand portion. Once again, ZeroChroma stepped behind their product and replaced it for me. As soon as Amazon starts selling the case for the iPad Air, I'll move part of my review there. In the mean time, the Zerochroma cases are quality products backed by outstanding customer service.

September 2013 UPDATE (original review below)

If I could give another star I would. This case has outperformed and outlasted all other cases I've tried. See my original review for those details. The case finally broke as detailed in my last review but I'm back to say I contacted ZeroChroma and they replaced my case under warranty. I really like this company and their customer service is super responsive.

At first glance the replacement and original cases appear the same but looking closer I see a few differences. Cosmetically, the company has moved their name from the case portion to the swivel portion. The rubber coating seems to be made of a harder material which seems a tad more durable. The foot opens much easier than the last one from a fully closed position. The most important difference is the "slide" area where the foot mechanism slides back and forth. This is where my original case broke but now it appears they have embedded metal reinforcement to that area. I couldn't be more pleased with this product or this company and I hope they develop a case quickly for the next ipad.

---------------original reviews---------------

My favorite feature of the new iPad is this case. Let me explain. I agonize over these types of purchases. In fact, the first case I bought the day the new ipad was released was from Brookstone. It was great except after trying it, the tiny magnets at the bottom right and left of the case made the screen go crazy.

After digging through a pile of cases at Fry's I uncovered the zerochroma case. The white one (vs. black) is the one I settled on. The material isn't exactly rubber or hard plastic but a sort of blend. It was tough to put on, but I don't want it coming off so that's ok with me. The only issue for me was causing a small bubble in the very corner of the ipad, but this could probably be avoided.

The cover itself is well cut for all the buttons. The cover wraps over the top and covers the space between the screen cover and ipad edge. The adjustability is fantastic. At first I was disappointed the case didn't go lower in landscape mode for typing. In case anyone at zerochroma is reading, consider a reverse kickstand for a lower level. Now that I've been using the case, the angles this can lock into are fine for everyday use. The ability to change angles based on lighting or situation is great. It's also very easy to change from landscape to portrait.

The "stand" on the back also makes a perfect handle for reading or securely gripping the ipad.

The case is still fairly slim, lies flat and stable on a desk despite the round stand on the back. The white material picks up dirt easily but cleans easily. The material is durable. Long term there may be issues with the position locking as it is similar to a rotating cell phone case. In use with the smart cover and a screen cover, I'm almost ready to toss the smart cover out. I've destroyed an ipad by dropping it (accidently) and the first thing to happen was the smart cover bent, popped off, and the screen scratch terribly.

I'd really like to find the other version of the case with the built in cover. I don't see it on Amazon but after watching the video on their website, it seems like this would be a great option. Best of luck to you in your quest for the perfect ipad cover.

UPDATE after 6 months
The case has held up exceptionally well but the following should be noted. I bought the white case but since I use it every day, it got dirty frequently and I grew tired of cleaning it. The stand positions also became looser after repeatedly opening and closing every day more times than I can count but the main positions I used it in worked fine. My wife's case (a snap on plastic one) broke completely.. I gave her the white one and bought a black one. Although I was worried about a black case with a white ipad, it actually looks fine and I haven't had to clean it yet. The stand on this new one is stiffer than the white one by quite a bit and is actually hard to pop out sometimes which is a problem I didn't have with the white one.

Also of note is that we've both ditched the smart cover and use just a clear screen cover (Splash Masque) on ipad 3 and Brookstone anti-glare on ipad 2. She slides hers in and out of her purse every day and mine gets dropped into my laptop bag with the laptop. No significant scratches in either case and my ipad 3 is in the best condition and is lasting the longest with this case although I haven't really dropped it as much do to me using the stand as a handle. If you are looking for a case with decent protection and great utility, my vote is for this one.

UPDATE AT 18 MONTHS
So I've been banging my case around for about 18 months now and it still locks into all of the positions but I finally broke it. The swivel piece broke in two places. The first place it broke was the pivot point where the foot attaches to the back and hinges open and shut like a door. This has been broken for a couple of months but didn't really affect usability. The second and more recent break is along the length where the foot support slides back and forth. Although tough to describe, the channel split. Outside of those two breaks within the swivel portion of the case, the case looks brand new. I wish zero-chroma would sell a heavier duty or replacement insert but I have been happy with the case and would still recommend it for the amount of abuse it has taken over the last couple of years.

I've tried many cases and stands (borrowed from friends) and have disliked them because they are landscape only, or have a cover that flops around awkwardly when you spin it to portrait mode, or don't stay put in the grooves, or are too bulky to hold while lying in bed. I use my iPad for Netflix, Facebook, Internet, ebooks, and a variety of games.

I bought this case for myself for Christmas. I. Love. It. So. Much.

I have a 3rd Gen iPad, and the white case has a nice snug fit and looks great. The foot is easy to extend and stays in place at the angle I choose. It lightly clicks at each 90 degree point when you rotate it, which helps to easily level the stand. I spin it to about a 45 degree angle and extend it just a little when I want to use it as a handle to hold while reading in bed.

The cutouts for the buttons, speakers, etc. are all well positioned. I don't use a front cover with this, so the left edge is somewhat exposed; however, the case curves around the corners enough that it still rests on the case and not the edge of the iPad if I decide to use that side as the base. The cover also curves around the edges enough that if I place it on its face, the screen doesn't actually touch the desk.

Last but not least - the price can't be beat! I honestly expected to pay twice as much for something this functional.

There's been such a fuss about the iPad cover ever since it was released. The magnetic latch that snaps so easily into place is very cool, as is the feature that activates/deactivates the iPad whenever the cover is opened or closed. And the cover folds nicely into a stand for those who use their iPads in landscape orientation. But there was nothing for people like myself who like to use their iPads in portrait orientation.

Until I found this case. It fits easily onto the iPad and I can finally use it on my desk at almost any angle. The multi-position stand mounted on the rotating platform on the back of the case creates lots of angles to choose from, in both portrait and landscape orientations. And the case is sufficiently stable that clicking, typing, and general poking on the screen doesn't jar it. Oh, and you can fit the original, award-winning iPad cover on along with this case. The best of both worlds.

The only--very minor--drawback is a slight tendency for part of the rubber border around the edges to slip off. But this only happens to small sections of it. Not enough for the case to come off.

If you have an iPhone 4/4s check out the ZeroChroma Teatro-S Case for iPhone 4, which is pretty much the same thing, only smaller. Both cases are a little much, buckwise. But they are worth it.

3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Doesn't lock at 90 degrees! 22 de agosto de 2013

The case is well made with solid construction. The stand is also pretty strongly constructed and offers plenty of support for the iPad.

However, my biggest problem with this case is the fact that it doesn't have any kind of "catch" mechanism when you rotate the stand so that it clearly stops in 90 degree increments. Because the rotation mechanism is pretty stiff, I find myself often overshooting 90 degrees. When I try to rotate it back a few degrees, I end up overshooting again because of the resistance of the stand rotation mechanism. And so I end up in this game of rotating the stand back and forth in either direction, constantly missing the mid-point where the stand would be completely level. This gets pretty frustrating and usually I can't get it quite a 90 degrees and so I end up just leaving it a few degrees off and allowing the iPad to rock a little because it's not quite level. This could have been easily solved if they only put some kind of notch at 90 degree increments so that the rotating mechanism would lock in quarter rotation increments.

This product's design is very good. It allows you to use your iPad in different angles, allows you to use on a table to read and also great when you are using the device in bed to read. Mine broke one of the support thingies in the back 6 months after I bought it. Bu I continued to use it- even when broke it was still usable. I then decided to replace it with the same one but this time, I emailed their support asking if they would replace it. this is about a year and half I after I bought it. They replied with in hours asking for a picture of the broken one and my address. In two days, I had my replacement for free. What a way to stand behind their product. I was amazed and impressed. This product and the people behind it make doing business a pleasure. I will continue to buy from them and highly recommend the product.
