Like all true Zippos, this will light in almost any wind or weather. You have a choice between a hundred or more different Zippo designs. Why buy this one?

I love this lighter because it is both elegant and no-frills, which is a hard look to achieve. Though the differences are subtle, the rounder lid and sharper side angles give this lighter a kind of vintage appeal that the metal accentuates. While the sides are brushed, as you can see in the picture, the top is a little bit shinier. Personally, I like the contrast. Every time I use this lighter, I feel like it could be the one a GI in WWII used in some small French village. The classic click-snap of the mechanism feels more authentic in this case.

There is another popular vintage Zippo being made, patterned on a 1930s model. That model is a little more "elegant" than this one, with a glossier finish and a small stripes on the corners that give it a more upscale look. Some people may prefer that look. I prefer this model, which is more subtly vintage and doesn't try quite so hard. The difference, to me, is that 1930s model looks like it belongs in a mid-century New York skyscraper, and this one was made for the working man of that era. Today, they both look upscale, but this one has a little more of the populist in its design, which I personally prefer.

In summary, this blends American utilitarianism with vintage lines. If your vibe is American classic, this is the lighter for you.

Zippo makes a quality product right here in the USA. I bought this lighter when my 3rd wife left me. It's been very loyal, unlike my 3rd wife.

This lighter doesn't come with lighter fluid. You have to fork up the money for some lighter fluid. I wasn't disappointed with that factor. Heck, my 79 Ford F150 didn't come with a full tank of gasoline when I bought her.

I burned 11 brand new Twilight books back-to-back before the Zippo ran out of fluid. That's pretty good in my book. But not in a Twilight book.

I don't have any friends. If I did though, I'd recommend this lighter to them.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Case looks great, insert is a bit marred. 7 de agosto de 2015

The Case looks great, but the insert looks like some one carried it in their pocket with their keys for a couple days (don't care about the body of the insert being scratched, but kinda annoyed by the chimney being scratched up right outta the box, oh well, I'll be adding to it soon enough). The case is solid brass, the insert is just metal colored to look brass. Would be nice if the insert was a bit more snug in the case, slides up on me from time to time. Other than that, it works like a zippo should.

Edit: Added a photo to show how great it looks lit, can't even see the scratches on the chimney.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great "daily driver" and beatufilly made, but collector item? 13 de septiembre de 2013

This lighter is a beautiful replica of Zippo's 1935 design, complete with period-correct art deco graphics on the box. But that's what it is - a replica. If I were a collector of lighters, I wouldn't expect this to increase in value over the years, even if unused in original box. However, especially compared to Zippo's current models, this lighter looks like a piece of jewelry. It' so nice, I almost didn't want to use it. But I am using it, and I find myself treating it with much greater care than my other run-of-the-mill Zippos.

The hinge is completely external, which gives the lighter a rugged appearance. The sides are brushed chrome, and the four flat thinner edges are flawless, high polish chrome. This model has no slashes on the sides, which gives it a more industrial appearance. Also available with slashes, which gives it a more dressy look. The hinge is a three-bar design rather than five as on current designs, which may or may not last longer than current models. I recommend applying a Teflon lube to the hinge occasionally if the lighter sees daily use.

The flat edges and square corners may put off some who use the lighter rather than just displaying it, because those features make one-handed opening and closing very difficult...compared to the more modern designs with rounded corners. The thumb slips off the lighter's sharp corner before the lid opens. I've been using Zippos daily since 1968, and this is the only one with which I felt the need to use both hands for opening. That's not a deal breaker for me, but I thought I'd mention it. If you're into performing "Zippo Tricks," this lighter will not work for you.

Always have enjoyed the use of a zippo lighter. When I noticed that zippo was producing the replicas I just had to have one. It was available at a great price so I purchased 2 due to sometimes I enjoy giving a zippo to a great friend. Zippo's lifetime guarantee is the best around. Ship it to them and they ship it back in the best possible condition they can achieve. They also install a new internal and send back the old one. If you ask they will sometimes provide extra flint packets. I believe zippo to be the best functioning lighter and especially recommend the new replicas due to they are a limited run and the bonus( that I found by accident or luck) is once in a while they will place an original in the box that says replica. I have been blessed to recieve 1, 1941 and 1, 1935 that do not have replica stamped on the bottom but instead the actual letters that relate it as original and I do use them. I have never replaced anything except flints and fluid and when the wick is used up or I obtain a new Zippo lighter I send the previous one in for repair. Best lighter, best prices and the shipping was fast. Item and seller recieve 5 golden stars for outstanding service.
