I obviously do not have a lot of money to burn so this was very well in my price range (actually a little below it which is good).I also did my homework and after reading and comparing for about 4 hours online,i decided to replace my not-too-bad-but-could-be-better Galaxy GeForce 240 GT , 1GB DDR3 video card.
Well , the card DOES take up two slots as indicated but that's the only negative thing I have to say about it.And in my case it really ain't negative since I wasn't using the extra slot I had left anyhow.
I installed the card (unfortunately the CD that came w/the card was for the wrong card) so I went on to the Nvidia website and downloaded the newest drivers/software.
Plugged it into my 32 inch flat screen TV via HDMi and everything was copacetic.Well more than copacetic.
I immediately noticed improvement in frames per second as soon as I started playing where I left off in Borderlands 2.I noticed the game ran much much smoother and there was no occasional hiccups anymore.
Even though both cards (my old Galaxy) and this one had the same exact amount of RAM ,the GDDR 5 makes a huge difference.
I actually considered buying another DDR3 card with 2 or 4 GB of ram but instead ,but after reading and learning about the differences between DDR 3 and GDDR 5 I am very ,very glad I didn't go w/the 'obvious' as in more RAM ,but instead w/the quality of RAM.
Have also tested the card on various other games from Skyrim to less demanding Mass Effect 3 to Crysis 2 and there was noticeable difference in almost every game I have played thus far.
Of course if yours truly had more cash to burn I would've went with an even better and unfortunately more expensive video card but for the money , the ZOTAC GeForce GT440 1GB GDDR5 is one of the best PC related purchases I have made in recent years.
Eventually I am going to buy a gaming rig but until then ,Zotac is definitely letting me squeeze some more life outta my 3 (going on 4) year old computer.
I would HIGHLY recommend this card as well as the brand from now on.
And to those who have any doubt if it's worth it to switch over to GDDR 5 the answer is a big , fat and loud YES!!!
Zotac is now in my vocabulary !
Cons: My card didn't come with the installation disk that it said it came with. If I wasn't computer literate and didn't know how to obtain drivers then you probably would have had a very angry customer not to mention this being shipped back. I don't know if it was a shipping oversight or an honest mistake but that might cause problems for other people.
Other than that this is a very good card for the price and I'm simply shocked at it's performance atm. You won't go wrong with this card at all and I recommend it to everyone. I just hope that other people don't get this without the CD in the box.
It also Runs Swtor with every single setting on HIGH in 1080p.
Battlefield 3 on ultra in 1366X768 resolution.
The Witcher 2 Enhanced edition on 1080p Low settings, Ultra in 1366X768 resolution.
Crysis on Very High 1080p.
Street Fighter X Tekken on High 1080p.
Just to give you some perspective on what this little card can do.
