Out of the box, the Aden sheets were a little rougher and I mean just a little. The weave pattern is different, and over multiple washes, for some reason the Aden by Aden and Anais was more prone to pilling in our front loading washer/dryer. Both had one minor run or snag in the fabric , but after washing it seems to have been that both have been pulled back into the fabric. I have been using these for over four months now, and they are still about the same. Both seem to have gotten a bit softer with the washes (after going through a phase of getting rougher - or so I thought).
Like other reviewers, these are all single ply muslin, and you will want a nice mattress cover to put these sheets on top of. I like that the muslin is breathable. Both have remained able to fit on our mattress over all the months of washings, there has not been any additional snagging of the fabric (It seems the fabric gets more sturdy the more you wash it). Colors have not seemed to fade on either brand.
I like the Aden and Anais brand because it is just a little more soft than the Aden By brand, and I like the pattern better. But, both have been durable.
The muslin of Aden + Anais products, in my experience, is actually quite rough. I have other muslin products that are so dreamily soft but these remain rough even years later. The crib sheets I purchased (2 sets) developed holes in them after only a few washes. These are so highly priced that I really expect quality out of them and that just has not been my experience. Knowing what I do now, I would not spend more than $10-15 on the dream blankets and *maybe* $30 on the daydream blanket. Certainly not $45 and $125.
