Recetario internacional incluido.

I'm an old guy, 76, living alone, and having everything my way. I already have a 6 quart pressure cooker and get a lot of use out of it. The reason I ordered this little one was to take it with me for camping. I use a single burner Butane stovetop for cooking outdoors. This pressure cooker will cook whatever I want in about a third the time - and with proportionally less of the expensive Butane fuel. (Watch your pennies and your dollars will take care of themselves.)I plan to do a lot of automobile touring (and roadside camping) starting in the near future. This pressure cooker is just one element to make my car set-up for economy and comfort.
I doubt that their is much functional difference with this aluminum model compared with the stainless steel model. I won't argue about aluminum causing Alzheimer's. Theories without linkage to observation are best ignored.
I tested this on my kitchen stove for possible defects - not for cooking. With my smallest electric burner on high, and one cup of water in the cooker, it whistled once in five minutes. Good enough. It works. And as far as the complaints of steam being released, it can't be any greater than would be released in conventional cooking. Don't worry it.
I recommend this pressure cooker to anyone preparing meals, indoors or outdoors. As of now, I'll only have occasional use for my larger one. And oh yah, I will use and do appreciate the little cooking booklet that came with the cooker. Call me Mr. Cheap, I've received real value for my money.
First thing I noticed about the Hawkins was that who ever was the designer really knew his stuff. Instead of using heavy lids, locking mechanisms and pressure regulators, the Hawkins uses an elliptical lid which pressure locks the device and a weight to regulate pressure. Like all good engineering solutions, it's simple, elegant and effective.
And with hand tools I can do my own repairs, which I could not do with the Fagor.
So how does the Hawkins cook? Very good indeed.
Last night made a split pea soup in 45 minutes. And this morning a corned beef brisket in 40 minutes. Both turned out fine.
The only downside - not worth a star's deduction - is that the (large) external label is secured with some kind of nuclear adhesive which resists every solvent I tried (I even got into the garage stuff: carb cleaner, gas stabilizer, kerosene - ) You can't just grind away at it, or the aluminum will mar, and it is a NEW pot. In the end sheer persistence (and grapeseed oil) carried the day (eventually), but maybe they could invest in a drum of rubber cement.
I love this thing, though, so 5 stars it is.
Why? Because you can only fill up to 1/3 of the way full (including water) for daal, since it foams up and can clog the valve. 1.5 litre is 6 cups. This means you can only have a total of 2 cups daal + water. 1/2 cup of daal needs 1 1/2 cups water. There's your 2 cups. The 2 litres is 8 cups. This gives you space to make the full 1 cup of daal (plus 2 cups of water). And it still heats up in enough time.
This little cooker is perfect for daily use during the week.
