5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas I love this shredder! 22 de agosto de 2013

After looking at the project I had - twenty five boxes of manuscripts to shred - I decided I needed a heavy duty shredder. I was not happy about spending the money, so I was doubly determined it would work.

I'm very impressed. In the first two days, I've shredded four boxes of manuscripts and this thing is a tank. It keeps going, just doing what it's supposed to do. The continuous motor feature means it doesn't overheat.

I am not dreading the rest of the project as much now.

UPDATE: A year later.

I love this thing. It just powered through all of the manuscripts, and today I finished another project (a five foot stack of shredding) that it just handled in a snap. It really doesn't overheat. It just works.

We just moved and I unpacked papers I've been saving for 35 years, bill, receipts, cancelled checks, you name it. I had been trying to shred this pile with a 10 sheet Wal-Mart shredder with 5 min on 60 min off duty cycle. I should have started shredding 35 years ago. This shredder is wonderful. While I didn't try to hog 20 sheets through at a time I did run checks thru bunches at a time; I'd say 10 - 15. phone bills from the old days 10 15 pages thick. Clump after clump of personal data falling into little pieces. I was careful to oil the cutter every 15 min. By the time I reached the recommended 2 hour break I had filled 2-30 gallon trash bags with shredding packed down. I know its a continuous shredder, but they recommend giving it a rest after 2 hours of shredding. I needed the break after 2 hours of shredding. My only complaint at this early stage is the design of the basket. The basket is attached to the front panel and forms an awkward object to dump into a garbage bag. If you’re in an office and the basket is being dumped into a roll around dumpster - no problem. Fighting this thing into a static-y garbage bag took some of the shine of the excitement of the evening. Let’s see how it last. I'd say I have about 6 more bags to fill and then this shredder can live a life of leisure.

I was tired of wasting time opening junk mail or feeding 2 sheets at a time with my Wal-Mart-special shredder. I would rather buy something overkill and run it 50% duty cycle than to bog a cheaper model down all the time. Purchased this with the intent of throwing anything and everything in it with no remorse. Works great, had built up a 6" tall stack of paper and unopened spam. Have heard some people discourage throwing plastic window letters or those with credit cards inside into a shredder, but I threw everything in and it ate it like a champ. Started to slow a bit when fed 20 sheets but it made it all the way through. You can feed 10-15 sheets no problem. Even has a little cooling fan that kicks on after cranking through paper for a while. This unit was around 15 pounds heavier than a lot of its similarly sized competition, which is the main reason I went with it. Pretty sure that weight in a unit like this is nearly directly proportional to the volume of steel inside- plastic components will hardly add up to anything. I think it is fair to assume this company went with steel componentry in a lot of areas where their competition opted for a cheaper material. It does seem like a sturdily built machine- it "inspires confidence" for whatever that is worth. Here is a listing of all the things I tried:

Single sheets
empty envelopes
credit cards (2 at once)
unopened spam
unopened spam with the plastic window
unopened spam with the plastic window + credit card inside
stacks of 10 paper sheets (continuous for over 5 minutes)
stacks of 20 paper sheets
card stock

With the initial test at least, I am very satisfied with this product.

I will try to remember to remember to update over this product's lifetime.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Excellent shredder 30 de mayo de 2014

What drew my attention from the vendor's description and previous reviews is the continuous duty and quiet operations features : this shredder does live up to expectations. Although the following is a minor consideration, it would have been convenient if this item were designed to be fitted with garbage bags, to facilitate disposal. I bought HSM 1408 Shredder Bags which I fit on the bin using binder clips - this is necessary to keep the bags in place. Maybe the 1310 model bags suggested by one reviewer are a better fit ? In any case, I highly recommend this shredder.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Continuous running is assures, as the bin fills up in 10 minutes. Also, it is slower than other shredders. 14 de septiembre de 2016

I researched these things for a long time. I have owned and worn out 4 different models, from $40 to $200.
This one was even more expensive, but what sold me was the promise of "continuos running".

Most of the inexpensive models have an electrical motor that shuts off when it over-heats.
This means waiting an hour or more for the the shredder to cool down so you can use it again.

This shredder did not over-heat. In fact, it ran smoothly at the same speed with continuous feeding for three hours.

The bad news is that it is half as fast as all the other shredders.
This may be partly because it's also doing a a cross-cut, but I think they just keep the motor slowed down to keep it running cooler.

I was not impressed.

It says it can handle 20 pages, but it will choke on 10 pages of cotton bond (laser printer) paper.

Worse, the bin senses it's full after only 10 minutes of shredding.
You have to open it up, push down the paper chips, and start over.

The bin is way to small, as well.
You fill it up every 15 minutes of operation.
That means, you have to dump the bin a lot.
I use plastic garbage bags, but it still takes time.

I think the reason is that the cut paper is fluffier than in other shredders. It just tends to stand up more.

I oiled the machine and pressed on.
It works, but it is just so much slower
